Live Crawfish Care Instructions
To temporarily store crawfish after delivery and before your boil, follow these steps:
- Keep Them Cool and Moist: Place the crawfish in a cooler or large container with drainage holes. Cover them with a damp burlap sack, towel, or newspaper.
- Add Ice Packs or Ice: Place sealed ice packs or leak-proof ice bags on top of the covering. Keep temperature between 36–46°F (2–8°C). Avoid direct ice/water contact.
- Ensure Ventilation: Leave the cooler lid slightly open or use a ventilated container. Do not seal tightly.
- Store in a Shaded, Cool Area: Keep away from direct heat/sunlight.
- Check Periodically: Make sure they're still moving and the cover stays damp. Refresh ice as needed.
- Use Within 24 Hours: Ideally, boil the crawfish the same day.
- ⚠ Avoid: Letting them sit in melted ice or water. This can suffocate or kill them.
